The Derm-Al Centre offers wart removal by means of cryosurgery.
The method involves destroying abnormal or diseased tissue by freezing it with nitrous oxide. The treatment is short and usually painless. Immediately after the treatment, the skin may itch, but only briefly. Inflammatory lesions caused by freezing take a few days to heal. A fine scar may remain after freezing.
Wart removal
Warts are a frequent condition in children, youth and adults. They are caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV). The virus may be contracted at a swimming pool, in a gym or by contact with various kinds of objects. It is also transmitted by human contact. Warts develop when the virus comes into contact with the epidermis. Most typically, they develop on the hands and feet, but not only there.
Typical antiviral pills, creams or ointments are ineffective.
Treatment involves destroying the wart structure by applying topical acid medications to them, or by cryotherapy, i.e. freezing with nitrous oxide. Cryotherapy is performed by a physician. Normally, one treatment is enough to destroy warts that are small and grow on the surface of the skin. In the case of large warts that grow deeper into the skin (usually on the feet), it may be necessary to repeat the treatment a few times. The treatment causes some pain. A blister usually develops over the frozen area of the skin. If it is big and troublesome, it can be punctured with a sterile needle and covered with a dressing. Skin that was subject to cryosurgery should be protected from injury and contamination. Creams and balms must not be applied there. Healing is usually very quick.
Sometimes, small warts disappear without any treatment. This is due to the skin’s immunological processes.
