Endoscopic examination of the nose, ears and sinus openings
- Description of the treatment
-
The Derm-Al Centre offers endoscopic examination of the nose, ears and sinus openings using an advanced endoscope with flexible optics and one of the smallest available diametres - 2.8 mm, which means that the examination is gentle, safe and comfortable.
Endoscopy makes it possible to reach areas that are hard to examine using traditional laryngological methods and to magnify and record their images in order to later assess the results of treatment.
For endoscopic examination of the nose and sinus openings, an optical fibre with a camera on its end is inserted through the nose in order to examine the nasal cavities and sinus openings on the screen. The endoscopic cord is so narrow (2.8 mm) that the examination is practically painless. The physician may examine anatomic details and detect pathological changes that are not visible in traditional examination with a speculum, as well as assess on a magnified image the nasal mucous membrane, airway patency and the condition of sinus openings, and check if there are any polyps.
For endoscopic examination of the ear, an optical fibre with a camera on its end is inserted in the ear canal in order to examine the ear on a magnified image. This way, it is possible to see the anatomic details in the ear canal, eardrum membrane and middle ear that are not visible in traditional examination with a speculum, such as: fine perforations in the eardrum membrane, retraction pockets or fluid in the middle ear. Ear endoscopy also enables post-operative check-ups and monitoring of the healing process, e.g. after drainage. In adults, the diagnosis is relatively simple and painless. In the case of children, the assistance of a parent or guardian is necessary.
After the examination, the patient receives a printout of the endoscopic diagnosis and recommendations for further pharmacological or surgical treatment. Apart from endoscopic examination of the nose, ears, sinus openings and third tonsil using flexible optics, the Derm-Al Centre offers endoscopy of the oropharynx, larynx and initial section of the trachea using an endoscopic spatula inserted through the throat.
