Dermatological consultations at the Derm-Al Centre include, where required, skin biopsy for histopathology.
Histopathology
Performed to evaluate spatial pathological changes in tissue. The sample extracted during biopsy is placed in stabiliser and sent to the laboratory for histopathological analysis. At the laboratory, the sample is processed: dehydrated, hardened and embedded in paraffin. Then, it is cut into stripes several milimetres long, placed on microscope slides and coloured. After that, it is ready for examination by pathologist, who identifies and describes pathological changes (histopathological analysis), if any.
The dermatologist extracts skin sample, if no stitches are necessary. If biopsy requires stitches, then the patient is referred to a surgeon. The result of histopathological analysis is available at Derm-Al within around 14 days.
