Surgical removal of veins - mini-phlebectomy
- Description of the treatment
-
The Derm-Al Centre performs mini-phlebectomy - surgical removal of varicose vein sections by means of micro-incisions.
It is a fairly non-invasive varicose vein removal methods and it is applied in less advanced stages of the varicose disease, where venous trunks are “healthy” (efficient), or as a subsequent stage of treatment after main vein surgery.
Doppler echocardiography is recommended before the procedure to evaluate the efficiency of the venous system.
How does mini-phlebectomy work
The procedure is painless and performed in local anaesthesia. The surgeon makes one micro-incision (2-3) at the beginning and one at the end of a varicose vein and extracts the vein above the skin. The vein is then tied at the ends and cut off. The incisions are usually so small that no stitches are needed, and a special plaster (Steri Strip) is enough. In some cases, single stitches may be needed. Elastic bandage is applied to the operated leg, which the patient should wear for some time. Also, it may be a good idea to wear elastic stockings. Immediately after the procedure, the patients should walk for at least 30 minutes. Hematoma may develop after the procedure, but this usually disappears within 2-3 weeks.
